Dr. Steven Merrill

A Graduate of Ohio State University School of Medicine, Dr. Merrill completed internship and residency in Family Practice from the Medical College of Virginia. His special interests include involvement in a local Christian church, teaching sexual abstinence programs for local schools, writing and photography. Dr. Merrill and his wife Shirley have eleven children.

Dr. Deji Okuboye


Dr. Okuboye received her degree in Osteopathic Medicine from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida. She completed her internship and residency in Family Medicine through Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah, Florida. Additionally, she is a licensed Physical Therapist. Originally from Clearwater, Florida, Dr. Okuboye enjoys international travel, competes in long distance running, and spends her free time with her daughter.

Tonya Millsaps, PA-C

Tonya Millsaps completed her undergraduate degree in Medical Sciences at High Point University before earning PA certification from Wake Forest University Bowman Gray School of Medicine. She then returned home to Alexander County and began work with Family Medicine Associates in January 1997. She currently resides in Hiddenite with her husband and child.

Joy Duckworth, NP-C
Taylorsville-Duckworth_Joy_Mar14_250px Joy Duckworth completed her Bachelors of Science in Nursing with honors from Lenoir Rhyne University. She furthered her studies and graduated from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC with a Masters in Family Nurse Practitioner. She has 20 years acute care experience with emphasis in Cardiac and Critical Care. Joy is married and resides in Hildebran, NC. She has three grown children and four grandsons. Joy enjoys activities with her church family, walking, camping and family outings.



Carrie Herman, NP-C
Herman_Carrie_lab_Jul16_webCarrie Herman completed her Bachelors of Science in Nursing with honors from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. She furthered her studies and graduated from Winston-Salem State University with a Masters in Science in Nursing/Family Nurse Practitioner. Carrie has over 16 years acute care experience with emphasis in emergency medicine, pain management and diabetes. Carrie is married and resides in Taylorsville, NC with her two children. She is a current member with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
